Victory in Europe (VE) Day street party

The 80th anniversary of VE Day falls on Thursday 8 May 2025. Many communities may be looking to mark the occasion with street parties.  If you’re planning a VE Day event that requires a road closure, please follow the process outlined below:

Notify the East Ayrshire or South Ayrshire Council events team:

East Ayrshire: events@east-ayrshire.gov.uk

South Ayrshire: licensing.submissions@south-ayrshire.gov.uk

Apply for a VE Day street party

The events team will check if a Public Entertainment License is required and guide you through the application process:

1.    Apply for a Road Occupation Permit

A Road Occupation Permit allows interested parties to place objects such as tables on the road.

2.    Arrange traffic management plan and signage

Contact traffic management companies, the events team will suggest accredited companies, please note that costs may vary.

3.    Apply for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO)

Submit a traffic management plan and signage plan when applying for a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) (fee waived for minor roads and cul-de-sacs)

4.    Pay for advertising costs

As part of the TTRO application you will be asked to cover advertisement costs (£300 to £350 +VAT) this is NOT to advertise the event, but is a legal requirement of a road closure.

TTRO applications must be submitted to The Ayrshire Roads Alliance a minimum of 30 working days before the event and only after receipt of a Road Occupation Permit and permission from East or South Ayrshire Councils event team.
